Day 5 Entry

Phrase of the Day: We did it

Today we started with some questions about our blog and open questions to Ken. Afterwards Ken showed us a really interesting video about the evolution of education. I thought that education advanced well with new technologies but not really as education goes better with learning while using texts, pictures and animations as the video says.

We had a session with Rebecca Hogue and Helen DeWaard and they talked about their blogs and experiences about having a famous blog, Rebecca talked about a little bit of being a cancer survivor and finished up talking about how you want to be seen with your blog.

Day 4 Entry

Word of the Day: Safari

We started our day with some questions and taking a look at other peoples blogs, we commented in some of their posts, many of them were really cool and helped me to get ideas for my blog.

Ken started handing us some useful tools to use online and gave us some advice about our security like never remembering our password on Internet browsers and that everything that is posted on the Internet will most likely have a copy somewhere.

We had a short video safari and we shot some pics and videos for an activity for the day of tomorrow. (Stay tuned)

Next we had a session with Maha Bali who seems like a really good person with interesting things to say, what I liked the most is that she actually asked us to answer ourselves and then she proceeded to answer.

We talked about feeling comfortable jumping in the Internet and posting about things we like because it is the most important part of it, we also should feel secure when posting anything.

Finally we finished the session with the main differences of how people is online and in person, which was really true as you many people have more than 1 face inside the Internet.

Day 3 Entry

Word of the Day: TechnoKen

Today we started our activities around 8:15am, Ken started a crowfunding for someone that lost money on our yesterdays photo safari, and we proceeded to watch a video of Visitors & Residents by David White that was well explained (inserted below).

Then we had a session with Autumn Caines, Bonnie Stewart and Sundi Richard and they talked about what they do, a little bit of who they are and we did a Personal/Visitor/Resident/Professional graph that we drew on a piece of paper, I included sites like Facebook, Blackboard, Dropbox, Mail, Google, Spotify, Netflix, etc.

It was a nice talk because they were 3 participants and us, they explained in a really good way the differences between visitor and resident and I agree in many arguments they said.

Day 2 Entry

Word of the Day: Catfishing

Today we went out and our activity was the photo safari on campus, we took some pictures with related words we wrote on our yesterdays activity.

Mexico: I used this word because this is the country I live in and it will always be important for me

$30: This one is actually funny because the expreso tec is almost $30, considering it was $20 a year ago they should consider to change it back as it is a disadvantage for the students

Tecnologia: I used my cellphone to represent this word because it represents a part of what this course is about, because this is a tool to get you online and have digital presence.

Más y mejor: It was convenient that we had «Factor Tec» campaign things on our auditorium,  because I like this phrase to use it with the Factor Tec on the deep part of the photo.

Leyenda: I represented this word with my laptop because it is what keeps this blog going on.

After the safari Ken showed us how to give credit in images we use that aren’t ours and how to create memes.

Next thing was the session with Laura Gogia and Lee Skallerup that talked about technology and how it is important to post (if you want to) things that you like, it is a good thing that it makes you happy and it doesnt matter if you help or inspire only 1 person as long as it helps.

Our last session of the day was with Alan Levine and Amy Burvall which talked about catfishing, and education in the last and coming years, they are experts in their areas and have passion for what they do.

Day 1 Entry

Word of the Day: MOOC (Massive Open Online Course)

Today we had a session which was streamed on the Internet with our guest speaker Dave Cormier from Canada he is an Open Learning expert he talked about who we are on the Internet, how things have changed and what might come later for the education around us, later on we were introduced to WordPress (weebly sucks) and were assigned to make our first entry of the #Semanai.

There was an interesting question that said «What’s the worst thing that could happen with the information you post online?»

David said that it was the first time someone asked that question and proceeded to reply, it’s obvious that David is an expert in his area and had really good answers and explanations that made us wiser in this topic.

Our last activity of the day was to observe some videos that talked about our expressions online, what can happen when we upload things without permission like the «Star Wars Kid» example, how we got information on the Internet even before being born, we have so much information online without even noticing with all these new apps that capture photos or videos.
